The Basics of Email Marketing Funnels
An email marketing funnel is a series of emails that you put in place to create a relationship with an email subscriber that will ultimately end with their purchase of whatever it is you sell.
Sounds simple right?
It is pretty straightforward. But you might be surprised that more small businesses don’t have email marketing funnels in place.
I’ve created a list of the 4 Must-Have Steps to Building an Email Marketing Funnel for you to keep and refer to often.
Step 1: Build Awareness
At this beginning stage of your funnel, building awareness. Your primary goal should be connecting people with your brand.
A great way to build this awareness is to offer a freebie to get people to subscribe to your email list. It can be a cheat sheet, a checklist, a top 10 how-to list, a recipe or anything else you think your ideal customer would want. Then create a landing page for collecting the email addresses so you begin to build up your list.

Step 2: Create Interest
The next step is to generate real interest in your brand now that you’ve got some email subscribers. Your goal should be to establish a relationship with these potential customers in an authentic, value-driven way. Make sure to provide value in every email you send. Include informative, entertaining, and useful content that’s free. Show your subscribers that you have lots to offer, but at this point, you’re not asking for anything in return.
Step 3: Consideration
This is the point in your funnel in which your emails should start to talk about what you products you sell or what services you provide.
Within these messages, you should be hitting the pain points that will strike a chord with your potential customers. How are they feeling? What problems are they having? What is costing them time and money?
Then go further and show how your products or services can solve those problems. To give proof of how great you’ll be at providing solutions, include case studies, blog posts and testimonials in these emails.
Step 4: Action
Now it’s time to get your subscribers to take action. You can offer an exclusive deal just for them or simply show them the amazing products and services you offer because they already have an established relationship with you.
Then don’t forget to follow up. That’s key. This isn’t a once and done situation. You have to keep nurturing the relationships. That way people who buy from you once will do it again!
