How to do Effective Live Video for Marketing

Live video should not be polished.

It should not be produced.

It should not be perfect.

The beauty of doing live video on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn is that your followers can get to know the REAL you. Not a glossy version they see in a Facebook ad.

Authenticity is what will sell them on your brand. It’s what will build the know, like, and trust factor with them. It’s what will make you memorable, fun, and attractive to your ideal audience.

One caveat: you should not try to appeal to everyone. The moment you do that, you end up appealing to no one. You have to hone in on who your ideal client is and speak to them. If you end up turning people off, then so be it! You don’t want them there anyway.

Own your live videos

Be real and in the moment. People want to see behind the scenes of your business, so let them!

Don’t worry if something goes wrong with the video, the sound, your dog starts barking or a cat walks across the screen.

As long as you are showing up as authentically you, you’re doing it right.

Don’t hop on live without a plan. You know what they say about failing to plan…

You want to plan out what you’re going to say.

Here is the basic idea of a run-through, and of course you’re welcome to change it up to your liking:

  • Introduce yourself and what you do
  • Welcome everyone watching you
  • Talk about a problem that you know they can relate to
  • Use storytelling to explain how you have been there
  • Provide a solution – give them 3 tips to implement right away
  • Push through any objections
  • Call to action

Your energy level needs to be high, otherwise you’re going to bore your audience and lose them…possibly for good. If you’re not excited about the material you’re covering, why should they be?

So you have to bring it.

If you’re feeling nervous, take a few deep breaths and count backward from 5 before you press Go Live.

And while you’re putting out high energy, you’ll end up having fun too.

Make sure your message is clear. A confused mind says no. Even if you’re not selling anything in a live video, you want to make sure the people watching understand what you’re saying and that what you’re teaching sinks in.

If they can’t figure out what you’re trying to tell them because you’re speaking in jargon or words over their head, you aren’t benefiting anyone.

Don’t give a lecture. Save those for college auditoriums. Make your lives a conversation, with give and take.

Ask your audience questions and have them type their answers into the chat. Read those answers live and RESPOND to them live too!

People will feel much more engaged when you’re talking with them, not at them.

Call to action

I briefly mentioned the call to action above, but it needs to be underscored. When you tell people a bunch of amazing things but don’t ask them to do anything, you’re losing out on a potential new client.

Always include a call to action at least once in your videos to ensure people remain an engaged member of your community! Have you joined our private Facebook group yet? Click here to get tons of LIVE trainings and amazing content!
